Captain Explorer DUKW® Ride
The fun starts when you board the FunVee DUKW (pronounced ‘duck’) authentic revamped WWII amphibious vehicle. You will be escorted by an English-speaking FunVee ‘Funbassador’ to tell you all about the places you will see on your exciting Singapore Captain Explorer DUKw tour.
You will drive to the historic Colonial District, the centre of British colonial rule and still the seat of Singapore’s government. It was here that modern Singapore’s founder, Sir Thomas Raffles, landed in 1819.
You can admire the splendid former Parliament House, now an arts centre. Built in 1827, this is one of the oldest colonial-era buildings in Singapore. You will also see the new Parliament House, nearby. The prism-shaped top is a modernist version of a traditional dome.
Another interesting pair of buildings is the old Supreme Court building and its modern counterpart. Completed in 1939, the old Supreme Court has Corinthian columns and a large dome. In June 2005, the Supreme Court relocated to the new building.
After the colonial district highlights, the tour will take a new turn as your versatile amphibious vehicle splashes into the waters of Marina Bay. Marina Bay is an artificial bay formed by land reclamation. You will see the famous statue of the Merlion – a lion head with a fish body resting on a crest of waves – that is Singapore’s emblem.
You will also catch splendid views of Singapore’s striking theatre and concert venues, at the Esplanade. Aluminum sunshades covering the two curved roofs give the building an interesting spiky appearance. Some people think it looks like the tropical fruit known as the 'durian'. Opened in 2002, the Esplanade contains world-class performing spaces. Only five other halls in the world have such state-of-the-art acoustics.
